Yes the Villages are considered to be Central Florida. The Villages community is located in two Central Florida counties. Lake County and Sumpter County. The Villages are also in Marion County but, Marion County is not considered to be Central Florida.
The three counties mentioned above, the cities and the state are all that really matters. People can argue over what is or is not Central Florida all they want to. Winning that argument accomplishes very little. If you live in Marion County and many residents want to call it Central Florida we are fine with that and so should everyone else be.
The Villages Community is massive and covers over 40 square miles. Let that sink in and then ponder for a moment that there are over 50 golf courses some of which are referred to as Executive Golf Courses. You will often see residents of the Villages driving golf carts to and from many more destinations other than just the golf courses. Lake Sumter Landing Market Square, Spanish Springs Town Square and other town squares usually have golf carts present.
Obviously the Villages Florida is a master planned retirement community. Although it is waning in popularity among Millennials golf is still very popular in 55 plus communities. Within the Villages there are thousands of residents who wish to play daily. Many golf players probably wish to spend the rest of their days wearing spikes. There are an amazing 99 golf courses within a radius of 15 miles of the Villages. Currently 52 are public and 44 are private. 12 golf courses are Championship courses and 38 are classified as Executive courses. Why? Central Florida is perfect for golf.
