Clermont Florida is the best place to retire in Central Florida. Central Florida has many retirement communities and many are famous like The Villages and Solivita but not everyone wants to move to a 55 Plus community when they are interested in retirement living in the Sunshine State.
The best overall Florida retirement communities are no doubt the ones designed and pretty much limited to older residents They typically have medical resources nearby, better amenities, like minded residents (at least in part) and ways to stay active and engaged. You could say there are retirement communities, and communities that you can retire in. I live in the latter although I realize for most the former are the best places to retire.
Clermont Florida is on the western side of the Orlando area and is a beautiful city. Kings Ridge and many other 55 Plus communities are located here and The Villages FL is an hour north while Solivita is about an hour to the south. Think active lifestyle and affordable housing with outdoor amenities.
In Clermont you will find affordable golf courses, medical facilities, rolling hills all while being just a short drive from many popular retirement destinations like Walt Disney World and water parks etc. Normally retirement communities have the following awesome amenities and often a golf course.

Dog Park
Fitness Center
Pickleball
Resort Style Pool

Yes, a gated community offers better security and does help keep unwanted people out especially if there is an assigned guard. Normally single family homes range from $300,000 to $500,000 which many retirees can easily afford. However that affordable housing will be accompanied by fees to maintain the community. On the bright side property taxes are usually lower than many retirees are used to where they are moving from.
Central Florida's Gulf Coast is an amazing place and certainly has beautiful beaches. The Tampa Bay area has quite a few communities worth investigating and there are many who choose Tampa Bay as one of the best places to retire. If you find an active community you love then you will soon find that this area as a whole has no shortage of community events or professional sports teams to be proud of. There are even a few theme parks for when grand kids or family visits.
About half way between the Atlantic Ocean and Florida's Gulf Coast is one of the best places to retire in all of Florida. The Greater Orlando area is about one hour from the Atlantic Ocean, Daytona Beach and is one of the largest Florida cities. World class golf courses are all around you, downtown Orlando has amazing events plus white sand beaches and the space coast are an hour away.
The Orlando area has countless and varied cultural attractions. The Dr Phillips Performing Arts Center, Orlando Magic, Amazing Hospital Facilities and of course those famous theme parks. Finding your future retirement home here will require more than just the amount of our social security benefits even with the tax benefits of living in Florida. However, you only live once and retiring in Central Florida is worth it.
