Here are the Central Florida Counties in alphabetical order. Brevard County, Citrus County, Hernando County plus Hillsborough County, Lake County, Orange County, Osceola County then Pasco County, Pinellas County, Polk County, Seminole County, Sumpter County and yes Volusia Counties are all within Central FL. The directional regions will be covered below.
Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas are on Florida's Gulf Coast Side of the Central Florida area. Hillsborough County contains the city of Tampa Florida, Pinellas County contains Clearwater Florida and St Petersburg Florida on the Gulf Coast. Immediately north are Pasco then Hernando and Citrus which are also on the gulf.
Polk County & Sumter Counties have no coastline. Sumter county is on the north border of what is considered the Central Florida area. It is immediately east of both Hernando and Pasco. Polk County is to the south of Sumter and contains cities like Lakeland Florida and Florida's Winter Haven where the theme parks Legoland and Peppa Pig are. Polk County is the largest county by area located in the central part of the state.
Lake County, Orange County, Osceola and Seminole County are all in the central region known as the greater Orlando area. This is the location near the actual center of the state and is most well known for the theme parks found here.
Mild temperatures are perfect for tourist and the them parks are an improvement over the wetlands they replaced. Have no fear nature lovers, vast wetlands can be found to the east and west of the Orlando area. The water in the wetlands east of Orlando actually feed the Everglades. There are plenty a places here still described as country or rural.
Brevard and Volusia County are on Florida's Atlantic or east coast. Volusia County is nestled between Johns River and the eastern coastline. This county is where you will find Daytona Beach and it is the northernmost county in Central Florida. Cocoa Beach, the Kennedy Space Center and much more are in these areas.
Really there are just 3 directional regions that are widely used. The central region separates north Florida from south Florida. Occasionally you will hear someone say the panhandle which is in north Florida's westernmost portion. Basically west of the state Capital which is Tallahassee.
No matter the different definitions this region of the state has the steadiest weather and the most beautiful beaches and theme parks. Visit the beaches in June, July, August and September to feel the burn. Visit the theme parks in October and November through February to outsmart the summer tourists.
