Theme parks, cruise ships, airboat tours and visiting St Pete Beach are among the things to do in Central Florida area. This is the Sunshine State and even in January daytime temps are usually in the seventies. Exploring Central Florida is great family fun.
Walt Disney World is the largest attraction in Central Florida drawing over fifty million visitors a year. Disney is actually made up of 4 theme parks and 2 water parks. Other theme parks are Universal Studios, Icon Park on International Drive and Seaworld Orlando. We do not have time to cover the many others here. After all this is the theme park capital. Staying at Margaritaville places you within 5 minutes of an amazing water park.
International Drive should not be missed. On International Drive you can find everything from a simple gift shop, a stunning mirror maze, Sea Life Orlando Aquarium and Wheel at Icon Park. his is a 400 foot tall ferris wheel and not that expensive to ride. On a clear day it is unforgettable. Trust me, check out International Drive.
When you visit Orlando there are many other outdoor activities for the whole family than riding roller coasters and visiting historic buildings. Downtown Orlando has family friendly adventures in Lake Eola Park. You may get lucky and show up on Sunday during the Orlando's Farmer's Market which is visited by thousands. A self guided walking tour of Lake Eola Park day or night is fantastic. There are some lake activities you can do in adjacent Winter Park. While at lake Eola Park, ask anyone about where you can find a customized chocolate bar. You will thank me later.
Other Orlando things to do include Disney Springs, a hot air balloon ride or visiting one of the smaller cities in the area. Winter Garden Florida has the West Orange Trail and is one of those hidden gems for an outdoor adventure. Bike rentals are available and the challenged are welcome. The West Orange Trail is over 20 miles long and passes along Lake Apopka for some great bird watching.
Exploring Florida is to fall in love with it especially the walking trails. Another great one is in Wekiwa Springs State Park and trust me, that is not the only attraction there.
Other day trips can include visiting Kissimmee Florida which is known for its' natural beauty. Lake Kissimmee or Lake Toho are great places to view abundant wildlife, a wild turkey or even crocodiles. Indoor skydiving, airboat rides, a water park and plenty of miniature golf can also be done locally.
Daytona Beach is famous and just one hour from downtown Orlando. The Daytona Beach Speedway, Bike Week, the Daytona Beach pier and waterpark can make for a full day or two very easily. Other places on the east coast that love sunny skies are Cocoa Beach and the Kennedy Space Center. These two locations are also just 1 hour from much of Orlando and less from the Orlando International Airport.
First up, Winter Haven Florida and Legoland Florida Resort & Safari Wilderness plus Peppa Pig. These two hidden gems are overshadowed by the 50 lakes within the city limits. Dont leave Winter Haven without seeing Central Park
Lake Wales is known for a large state park filled with Botanical Gardens and trust me, it is much larger than you realize. It takes some people all day to enjoy Bok Tower Gardens ( a National Historic Landmark). The Westgate River Ranch Resort a huge dude ranch for horseback riding etcetera is also there. Wild Florida on full display.
Lakeland Florida in Polk County has Florida Southern College where all of the Frank Lloyd Wright architecture can be enjoyed. It is mostly on the north side of Lake Hollingsworth. North of Lakeland is the Green Swamp where you can see local wildlife and white tailed deer. This swamp ultimately feeds the Florida Everglades. Many Orange Groves can be seen all over Polk County Florida.
Crystal River, International Drive, amazing airboat rides, any large state park, Cocoa Beach, Rock Springs, Lake Buena Vista by Walt Disney World and Bok Tower Gardens.
