It is 25 miles or 35 minutes by car from downtown Tampa to the beach. That is to Clearwater Beach which is the most well known in Tampa Bay and the most popular. There are several beaches with powdery white sand much closer than you think. But, the water color is no emerald greenish blue.
In the Tampa Bay area Clearwater Beach and St Pete Beach get all of the praise from most tourist and visitors. Locals and habitual visitors may have a slightly different opinion. Beach lovers and residents of downtown Tampa know about Davis Beach which is the closest beach, a secluded beach and white sand beach on the south part of Davis Islands. There you will find a dog park, calm waters but brownish water.
Cypress Point Park and Ben T Davis Beach are two beautiful beaches you will drive right by on your way to Clearwater Beach across the Courtney Campbell Causeway and past the Tampa International Airport. These two pristine beaches are loaded with Tampa residents and are white sand beaches on Old Tampa Bay.
A tourist trap, well yes but they sure are a lot of fun which what it takes to make a truly popular beach. You need activities like paddle boarding, volleyball courts,, ocean waves, picnic tables and picnic shelters and maybe even cabana rentals for spring break or those hot summer days. Great beaches draw tourist and hands down the best beach in Florida is a gulf coast beach. Some of the nearby beaches are listed below in Alphabetical order
