No downtown Tampa does not have a beach. There is Davis Beach which is on the south end of Davis Islands although that is not technically downtown Tampa it is very close. Actually there are two beaches there. On is dog friendly and one is no pets allowed and both are a white sand beach.
There are several white sand beaches in the city of Tampa Florida. Davis Island Beach or just simply Davis Beach is the closest to downtown. It looks over the marina and Seaplane Basin. Davis Island Dog Beach is north of the Davis Islands dog park across from the boat launch.
Not one of my favorite Tampa beaches but still a white sand beach Cypress Point Park is suitable for many things. You can rent paddle boards etcetera there and it overlooks Old Tampa Bay. There is plenty of parking, clean facilities and it may be suitable for what you are looking for. You will find it about 1 mile northeast of WestShore Plaza.
The Ben T Davis Beach is still inside the city of Tampa. It overlooks Tampa Bay and a lot of fun can be had there. You will find seafood restaurants, nature trail, beach chairs, parking and more people than you will probably be expecting. The alternatives are to just keep going west until you reach Clearwater Beach about 15 minutes away. It just depends on your wants and needs at the time.
If you are lusting after beautiful beaches with powdery white sand and lots of beach bars head over to Clearwater Beach. This is the best Tampa Bay beach available and I like it more than St Pete Beach which is 20 minutes further south. Clearwater Beach has everything you could possibly want. Expansive white sand beaches, palm trees, its on a barrier island and it has a charming walkable beach town. All I need is a beach chair, food and drink and the Gulf of Mexico.
To the north of Clearwater Beach there are more pristine beaches, bird watching, hiking trails and all wrapped up neatly for you in a state park. These places are a nature lovers dream and give beach lovers the opportunity to find a more secluded beach. At least compared to most Tampa Bay beaches. Also in the Tampa Bay area are Fort De Soto Park, Fred Howard Park, Archibald Beach Park and the Apollo Beach nature Preserve. Tampa Florida does have beaches, there are just no white sand beaches in downtown Tampa.
