The west coast of Florida is lined with popular beaches. The southern end of this chain is one of the best places on earth to spend either summer of winter months. Still few have discovered it. The azure waters and relatively small towns contain luxury resorts that often line the beautiful beaches. Since most of this area runs north to south there is no better place to watch a nightly spectacular sunset with that special someone.

Nothing can ruin a tropical paradise more than hot sand, dirty water or bad attitudes. As long as you do not bring the latter none of those will you find on the western coast of Florida. Clearwater Beach is the best overall beach on the gulf coast.

The town of Clearwater Beach seals the deal and helps rank it among the best overall beaches in the world. Palm trees, a boardwalk, pier, marina for a short ferry ride or cruise, Clearwater Aquarium and every type of activity you can think of doing on a beach vacation. Not to mention Clearwater Beach is in Tampa Bay and part of the Sun Coast.

St Pete Beach is just to the south and also in Tampa Bay. St Pete Beach is a great and well known beach. That same blinding white powdery sand lines the calm waters as do many famous beachfront hotels, restaurants and bars.

Siesta Key Beach and Marco Island in Southwest Florida

Only the more nuanced beach bum will have heard of these destinations. If you want to visit a white beach with soft sand write down Siesta Key Beach. Known to have the softest white sands in the world and 99% pure quartz, paths had to be built so visitors could more easily reach the wet packed sand by the waters edge. A warning to you, the whitest sand will necessitate sun glasses in the afternoons. You will find Siesta Key about 1 hour south of Clearwater Beach.

Marco Island Has The Best Beach, Palm Trees & Turquoise Seas

A slightly different area makes Marco Island appeal to a different group of visitors. Many will never leave after they become addicted to the climate and local offerings. Most of the island is a community and the town itself is slightly more complimentary like you are in New South Wales or Whitehaven Beach. You feel more like you want to live here than to return. To the south a short boat ride away are some very private beaches.

Panama City Beach & Miles Of Powdery White Sand Beaches

Panama City Beach is the spring break capital of Florida and the easternmost part of the Emerald Coast. That would surprise many which have only heard of Miami Beach, South Beach or Fort Lauderdale. Give the college students their choice and just follow their lead. The transformation which occurs here each year is amazing. Miles of the wort traffic you have ever seen, every car filled with young adults. It is really something to see.

Further west along the Florida Panhandle you will pass world class beautiful white sand beaches at Grayton Beach, Seaside Beach, Santa Rosa Beach and 4 or 5 more before reaching Destin Florida. Known as the worlds luckiest fishing village it is also well known for scuba diving, kite surfing & jet skiing. I lived here for 15 years and known it very well. You will find some great sand dunes, beach bars, striking turquoise waters and some surprisingly wealthy beach bums.

The Northwestern Coast of Florida also has some very isolated beaches. Navarre Beach is on a very long barrier island with Pensacola beach. There are very few access pointes. Lots of marine life, excellent snorkeling and that I own my own private island feel is available to those who want it. Shallow waters, white sands, beautiful sunsets and a lounge chair or beach towel. All you need can be found here.

Turquoise Waters But No A Pure White Beach

Giving up on the pure white sands you will find slightly pink white sands on Florida's other coast. The marine life is slightly different as well. Still the beaches from Daytona Beach to the Florida Keys are comfortable to use year round.

Palm Beach is the first of the more stunning beaches of what most people think of as South Florida. Yes, these are amazing beaches but once you get south of Palm Beach traffic and parking become an issue. A Hotel and taxi or Uber are the best remedy. Most who visit Miami Beach or South Beach never return. Later they discover the west coast has palm trees and beaches and we have them from then on.
