Anybody can make a claim on the internet. What do I use to support mine? Well much more than overwhelming public opinion and the fact that I have been there. The city has a history of building paths allowing walking beachgoers to pass over to the wetter more compacted sand. Needless to say beach volleyball games are a little more challenging in soft white sand.
They complained of it being to powdery and soft. Would I call this a striking yet touristy beach like South Beach? No, and that is a good thing. The town could actually be much better which is why I rank this beach lower than Clearwater Beach overall.
Most of beaches along Florida's gulf coast have stunning beaches. However not all of them are powdery white sand beaches. If someone was to visit Venice Beach or Caspersen Beach they would find black sand beaches. Although those beaches have white quartz sand they are mixed with shell fragments, fossils and yes, sharks teeth which makes them appear much darker. Not a white beach, bust still a very interesting one.
Where did the whitest sand and softest sand come from? It came from the Appalachian Mountains which reach as far south as Alabama to the north of us. This likely happened during the last Ice Age and is why our beautiful beaches are superior to the east coast beaches Like South Beach, Fort Lauderdale etcetera. The whitest and softest sand in Florida is on Siesta Key and gulf coast beaches.
Yes, palm trees, beautiful white sand beaches and pure white sand will draw beach lovers. Nowhere can you find a wider variety of beaches than the 189 registered ones in Florida on the over 800 miles of coastline. A white beach with scuba diving, turquoise waters and lots more to offer is to the north at St Pete Beach or Clearwater Beach. If you want seclusion you can go to Marco Island and go jet skiing to some secluded beaches on the west coast. There are amazing choices all along gulf shores and the southern coast.
Once you ride the hype train to the Florida Keys most people fail to ever return. The coral reef is of course amazing but not everyone is into scuba diving or deep sea fishing. Most want to visit the turquoise blue waters and the best beach they can.
These places are not that common in The Keys and the best beaches are simply not there. There are a couple of more secluded ones which feel like you are at the Caribbean Sea and they are the cleanest beaches and less populated ones. A short ferry ride will be needed to get you to them.
