Clearwater Beach in Florida has the best sand. If white sand beaches with soft sand and what most would call the whitest sand beaches in Florida are what you are looking for then Clearwater Beach has the best sand. Not to mention the most sun in the Sunshine State and beach town.
Clearwater Beach is the best all around beach in the state of Florida. Does it have the best sand? Yes if you're going by overall beauty and your ability to enjoy the sand and get the best out of your beach vacation or daytrip. In Clearwater Beach nothing, nothing is missing. You have one of the finest piers, boardwalk areas adjacent to the beach, activities, restaurants etcetera all within walking distance. Yes, this is a family friendly beach.
Other activities & a beach town? Yes, because nowhere in America has more consecutive days of sunshine you will need to take a break from the soft sand and have entertainment. Locally since this is a barrier island you will be shocked at what is available. Deep sea fishing, jet skiing, nearby nature trails, water sports or view the marine life at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Then return ready to relax on that powdery white sand.
The prettiest white sand beaches in Florida are in Tampa Bay. The next up would be St Pete Beach which is about 20 minutes to the south. it is among the best white sand beaches in Florida not only because of the sand and local area but because it too can be used and enjoyed year round. Sugar white sand beaches are a lot less beneficial in the panhandle where it is freezing cold in late fall and winter.
Quartz sand is not the softest sand. However, what is marketed as soft quartz sand is a glistening white sand and on the gulf coast with those emerald waters it does look amazing. Where can you find this famous beach? Siesta Key Beach and Siesta Key are located about an hour south of Tampa Bay.
Siesta Key is a barrier Island not far from Fort Myers or Marco Island which is to the south of Fort Myers. Do not think of this area as an undeveloped beach or you will get a shock when you arrive. Expect to find a really good view of the sunset and a west southwest facing view of the gulf coast when that sun sets. For more natural beauty with better sand dunes, bird watching and palm trees there are better beaches.
For those who are looking to Florida and have never been to the Keys you may expect something that is not there. Full disclosure, yes I have been there around 25 times. Yes, I believe it is worth a day trip or two just to experience it. However even with what white sand beaches that are there it is not a place for a great beach vacation. Think more about a deep sea fishing trip to enjoy those sparkling blue waters or scuba diving. If nothing else the shallow waters are perfect for snorkel gear.
South Beach is on the east coast and some consider it among the best beaches. It is a great beach for blue water sports and facing to the morning sun. If you like the party lifestyle and are staying in a local hotel or home then it may be worth it. I hate this place because of traffic and parking. Even if this was among the best white sand beaches I would never go here again.
For those who visit Walt Disney World or Orlando FL this is one of the favorite beaches. White sands? Well that depends on where you are coming from as I think they have a pink tint to them. It is one hour plus from Orlando and Cocoa Beach has a decent beach town, nice pier and it is a family friendly beach. Kids build sandcastles and so do adults. Cocoa Beach gives you the opportunity to experience what Florida beaches offer.
The main attractions to plan a trip to are Pensacola Beach, Santa Rosa Beach, Navarre Beach and any Destin Beach. First a side note for jet skiing focus on Destin and Pensacola or the sound in South Walton. The best beaches in this area are far from inlets. Any of the beach sand here is amazing. I lived in Fort Walton and Destin for 15 years and the only downside is it gets surprisingly cold in the winter and so does the gulf and sea breeze. The Gulf Stream which provides warmth is 40 to 60 miles offshore.
