Yes Florida does have turquoise water. Turquoise water like the mineral is a mixture of blue and green. This is more prominent on the Gulf Coast as the water close to shore is a little more emerald green in color. The green tint dissipates the further from the Mississippi River you get.
The PH level is different in these waters. As an offshore fisherman you will find that often green or murky water is only a few feet deep. Below that few deep will be crystal clear water and even a different water temperature. Often at beaches along the west coast of Florida the greenish water will end very close to shore and blue waters will be within sight if not even on the beaches. The green water is not dirty, the PH level is just not the same.
From Panama City Beach to Gulf Islands National Seashore the water has a greenish tint. In fact the greenish water usually goes out 30 to 40 miles. I know this is about the average because I have fished here for 15 years on my own boat. This is how I first discovered that blue water was often just 5 or 10 feet below the surface.
The Emerald Coast is amazing and filled with healthy migratory fish. From Santa Rosa Beach, Navarre Beach to Destin Beach and Henderson Beach State Park you will find amazing white sand beaches. Many refer to Destin as the ultimate Florida boating destination but I would disagree. Maybe for the Florida panhandle but not for most of Florida or more novice boaters. The natural beauty of these beaches and inlets are often overshadowed by very rough and dangerous inlets and this applies for the entire Florida panhandle.
For water sports you cant beat Florida's Gulf Coast. It not only has the best beaches in Florida with amazing white sand it also has the best localized fishing and more options. Siesta Key Beach is a perfect example of a boaters slice of heaven and so is Sanibel Island and Marco Island. You can even reach the Florida Keys from these barrier islands. Often some of the clearest water in Florida is minutes away from the local marina or boat ramp.
Dry Tortugas National Park which is about 70 miles west of Key West or a 4 hour boat ride on a clear calm day from Marco Island. yes that is quite a boat trip but try driving to the Florida Keys. Nature lovers will love the park and the fishing is also amazing. The water is almost as clear as the air around you.
Clearwater Beach is the single best beach in all of Florida. Plenty of sea life, beach chairs, clean beaches and all of the soft white sand you will ever want or need. St Pete Beach is about 20 minutes south by car or you can walk all day long along these turquoise waters. Florida's west coast is amazing and we look forward to seeing you.
