Yes Central Florida is safer from hurricanes and tropical storms. North Central Florida cities are the safest place from hurricanes and tropical storms historically but Central Florida cities do have lower insurance rates than coastal cities.
The safest Florida cities that are safe from hurricanes are the furthest from the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf Of Mexico. Although the elevation of the central part of Florida is not much above sea level it is still higher. Before a storm like Hurricane Ian or Hurricane Jeanne can reach the inland cities the storm surge and wind damage is significantly diminished. The State of Florida has 1,350 miles of coastline from Northeast Florida to Gulf Shores Alabama and obviously the coastal areas are at risk oa a tropical storm or worse.
Some of the safest areas during Florida hurricane season are void of large cities. North Central Florida is a perfect example. It may be safe from hurricanes but what is there to do? On the bright side the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico are just a couple of hours away.
Walt Disney World was built in Central Florida because of weather and safety from most hurricane conditions. Hurricane prone areas like Miami and the Atlantic Coast were not even considered even though land there was much cheaper decades ago. The Sunshine State has no safer place to be when hurricanes hit Florida.
