Dogs are not allowed on the actual beach. They are to be on a leash even if they are in the parking lot. The beach is clearly posted " No Dogs On Beach" in several places. Have I seen them on the beach? Yes but very rarely and it is clearly posted as seen above.
There are a lot of great things about this beach. One of them is you never are supposed to step in dog poop. For those who still do not believe go to the Tampa Parks site. It clearly says what features are here (no pictures) and that no dogs are allowed on the actual beach area.
Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash if they are on the Courtney Campbell Causeway Trails. Some people who use the trail park in the parking lot at Ben T Davis Beach that is why dogs are often seen in the parking lot area and in other designated areas. See more on the Courtney Campbell Trail.
Davis Islands has a dog park and even a designated dog beach. It is just north of the boat ramps and a long stones throw from the actual beach where dogs are not allowed. Dog friendly beaches are somewhat hard to come by in the Tampa Bay area but they do exist. There are however many dog parks and traditional parks which allow dogs.
The Florida Department of Health is responsible for monitoring the beach water as directed by the Florida Healthy Beaches Program. At Ben T Davis Beach you will dee drinking fountains, public restrooms and actual picnic shelters. On the western end of the beach you will see a placard which warns of higher than normal bacteria levels. Follow it's advice and enjoy yourself when visiting Ben T Davis Beach on the Courtney Campbell Causeway.
