There are two beaches along the Courtney Campbell Causeway. One is one the southwest side of the Courtney Campbell Trail and the other is on the eastern end of the Courtney Campbell Trail. Both are fine beaches but they certainly have their distinct features.
Nearest the Tampa International Airport and along the shoreline of Old Tampa Bay you will find the Ben T Davis Beach aka Davis Beach. The Courtney Campbell Causeway was named the Davis Causeway originally.
At the Ben T Davis Beach there are several notable attractions. Namely paved parking, covered picnic areas, restrooms, equipment rentals, beach volleyball and a couple of restaurants as well. All you need for fun in the sun with the ability to get food without ever giving up your parking spot.
Actually this is a very nice albeit a smaller beach. I have also seen dogs at this beach that were leashed. Parking here is on the sand so not everyone is as interested. Not to mention a Clearwater Beach resident will most likely prefer to just head over to the Gulf. Both of the main beaches on the old Davis Causeway are on the shores of Old Tampa Bay and both beaches are connected by the Causeway Trail.
One of the hidden jewels on the causeway just east of the bridge is the boat ramp. You will see a lot of people fishing from shore along the perimeter road but there is a huge boat ramp as well. You will see it from your car is you watch closely.
The Counties meet on the western side of the Causeway Trail. The Cities of Clearwater & Tampa actually meet closer to the middle of the bridge. I suggest beginning the trail from the western side and if it is your first time to ride a bicycle as it is a great bike path. Start in the afternoon and you can get food at Ben T Davis Beach and then head back and enjoy the sunset. On the weekends and specifically Saturday there will also be a lot of walkers to watch out for. See you soon at a Courtney Campbell Causeway Beach.
