Living in Central Florida is one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have lived in South Florida, Saint Augustine, Destin and Pensacola and no place matches living in Central Florida. The beaches, close enough, Walt Disney World Resort & the theme parks, also close enough.
First, I am not that big of a Walt Disney World fan. I moved here for the cost of living in central Florida and because living in Orlando was out of the question. Living in Florida should mean close to the beach and being close enough to enjoy them. The theme parks are convenient when guests visit. To be honest after having season passes and 4 children of our own we got tired of the theme parks. Now we choose and visit a theme park and fake our way through it for the grandchildren.
No state income tax can quickly become irrelevant if you have a higher cost of living. Warm weather is awesome, till you get an electric bill in Miami. For overall quality of life and a decent cost of living meaning affordable housing etcetera many will choose Central Florida.
Living in Orlando or even in downtown Orlando is one of the two best destinations for young professionals moving to Central Florida. There is a booming job market in Orlando and it varies a great deal with types of jobs available. Some want to work at Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Orlando Resort for the rest of their lives. Others focus on the booming tech, arts or medical industry when Orlando is home. Being the 2nd largest employer year round Disney World and Universal are still vital to many people.
World renowned theme parks are completely replaced here by salt water and beautiful white sugary sand beaches. We far exceed the natural beauty Orlando offers and Lake Eola Park cannot compare to the Tampa Riverwalk day or night. Yes Orlando is close to Cocoa Beach and downtown Orlando is just a short drive to Daytona Beach but neither of those compare to Clearwater Beach or St Pete Beach. If you prefer live half way between the two major cities in Lake County of Polk County. Affordable housing will be all around you and you are still just a short drive from popular theme parks and beaches.
