Yes, normally it is safe to swim at Ben T Davis Beach. The beach is on Tampa Bay and the Florida Department Of Health does post a warning sign that pertains to water safety. Human sewage and a indication of fecal pollution can be a factor but it is not as bad as some may picture. All coastal beaches near cities are periodically subject to this affect.
Yes there is a swim advisory posted at the beach when swimming is not advised. It is shown at the top of this page but you will need to check it each time you visit the beach. Stormwater runoff, high bacteria levels and high levels of most unhealthy things are posted when necessary. I would have shown a safe to swim advisory but there was not one there when I visited. The beach was still open and many residents and tourists alike enjoying the gorgeous sun bathing public beach that ben T Davis Beach is.
Ben T Davis Beach is in Hillsborough County overlooking Old Tampa Bay. There is metered parking and since this is a popular destination at times the price for parking varies. At the east end of the beach there is often live music, equipment rentals and two open restaurants & bars.
Clearwater Beach is in Pinellas County and on the west side of the Courtney Campbell Causeway. There is also a small beach there but parking is one the sand. If you have a dog this is probably the choice for you. A Clearwater resident will most likely go the Gulf beaches and this one is usually easy to visit. Obviously not on Memorial Day or Labor Day but during the off season.
