Clearwater Beach is the town that has the best beaches in Florida. I say that because of the quality of the beaches, the things to do in the surrounding area and the fact you can use this beach every month of the year. Beaches in the Florida Panhandle are way to cold to use in the winter months.
Clearwater Beach FL is number one for a lot of reasons. Namely the quality of the quartz sand that makes the beach sand some bright white and soft under your feet. Not to mention is is so much cooler than darker colored sand. The beautiful beaches in this area are to numerous to mention but we shall cover the more popular ones.
You should have a boardwalk in the best Florida beach towns, access to deep sea fishing, and water sports should all be available including equipment rentals. You should also be able to take a cruise on a pirate ship or just to view the bottlenose dolphins or stunning sunsets. Couple all of that with small town charm and you have Clearwater Beach. The finest beach town and with Clearwater Marine Aquarium to learn to love the area even more.
Locally the sunshine state has several fantastic offerings. St Pete Beach is another barrier island beach town and thought to be very family friendly There are many white sand beaches between these two beach towns but only a couple of well known beaches to the north. Those two are Honeymoon Island and Caladesi Island both with soft sand and a lot of trails and natural beauty.
The beach town which has the best beach in South Florida is actually in a small town named Siesta Key Beach which is on Siesta Key. Siesta Key is a barrier island 50 miles south of Clearwater. Well worth the trip to just experience the what is described as the best sand in all of America. It is claimed to be 99% quartz sand, it is very soft and powdery sand. Not a great place for beach volleyball but the term gorgeous beaches definitely apply to the ones on Siesta Key. With streets having names like Ocean Boulevard you know what the focus is.
Further north along the west coast you will come to many more barrier island beach towns with amazing white sandy beaches. Anna Maria Island is the northernmost beach town on the Cultural Coast which is directly south of Tampa Bay and the Sunshine Coast. Obviously the Sunshine Coast is the hear of the Sunshine State.
Fort Myers, Marco Island, Naples and Cape Coral are all to the South of Siesta Key. Venice Beach and Caspersen Beach known for their dark sand are located here. Although they too have the quartz sand for some reason this area has many fossils and sharks teeth. Caspersen is famous for them and known as Florida's Black Beach because of the beach's color.
Fort Walton Beach and Destin Florida are two fantastic beach towns. Destin Beach is the primary attraction and Santa Rosa Beach is pretty much just a boat ramp. To the west is Grayton Beach and Grayton Beach State Park which are both unique and I love them very much.
I lived in the South Walton, Destin area for 15 years. Among beach towns in Florida this one holds a special place in my heart and mind. Unfortunately, average temps in the 50's for a low ruin this area in the winter. St George Island east of Panama City Beach is no better.
I believe that it does, but it is not among the most famous. Neither are the best beaches among the most famous or infamous. Amelia Island is the northernmost beach town and another barrier island. You know it is something special as it has an airport and a Ritz Carlton. Fernandina Beach is the northernmost beach in the state. Unfortunately the latitude also causes this location to be seasonal.
St Augustine Beach is one of the finest beach towns in Florida. This is where Florida history began and it is beautiful Unfortunately when compared to places on the gulf coast the actual beach is somewhat of a let down. Worth a visit? Absolutely because of the local architecture and history, but keep driving to Daytona Beach to see how a beach town should be done.
Daytona Beach is a one of kind destination. Does it have white sand beaches? No it does not but no beach on Florida's east coast is truly white like on the gulf side. What is does have is Daytona Bike Week, The Daytona International Speedway, a beachside amusement park and a great pier. A true must see as you head to the south. Get one of the vacation rentals and spend the night. A lesser known but decent beach town is immediately south which is New Smyrna Beach.
Cocoa Beach and Cocoa Beach Pier is a surfing Mecca. Why else would Ron Jon Surf Shops have their largest store here? This is a great location that is often overlooked because of Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center. You can watch rockets take off from the Cocoa Beach Pier, just get ther early for a prime spot.
West Palm Beach Is A Favorite For Many Reasons Parking is easy here and traffic is far superior to Miami Beach or South Beach. Fort Lauderdale By The Sea is also difficult but still one of the more beautiful beaches on the Atlantic Coast. To the north of Fort Lauderdale is Delray Beach which is very well known for nesting sea turtles. Another fun fact, Lauderdale By The Sea is Florida's beach diving capital.
The Florida Keys has quite a few beaches. I just do not like them. To much coral and The Keys is not famous for beaches. It is famous for the Atlantic Ocean and scuba diving, deep sea fishing and of course the Bohemian Lifestyle. Key Largo would not be a thing without Flipper and the Atlantic Ocean.
