Orlando is more crowded than Tampa FL. I am specifically referring to the cities because the Tampa Bay area and the Greater Orlando Metropolitan Area would just be inaccurate. Those areas are huge and to be honest, parts of each are crowded and parts seem rural
Here are the of course estimated numbers based on the US Census Bureau and the projected growth rates. Tampa FL has about 178 square miles and a population of 400,000. That is 2,275 people per square mile. Orlando FL has around 114 square miles within the city limits and a population of 320,000. That equates to 2,807 people per square mile.
Both of these Central Florida cities are great choices to visit or to move to. It really depends on your budget and particular recreation tastes. I will say this, more people prefer to go to the beach everyday than prefer to go to the theme parks every day and the beaches are certainly a less expensive tourist destination.
Tampa FL has Busch Gardens, The Florida Aquarium, Tampa Riverwalk, beautiful beaches and for that matter the most stunning beaches, better sports teams and, it's just a short drive from Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando Resort, Icon Park and Seaworld Orlando. Tampa also has Tampa International Airport.
I have to admit, Orlando has better public transportation. At least for now. Both have sunny weather but Orlando has a better shopping scene. Orlando's economy is based on public jobs, and Disney World Orlando does have the best theme parks and yes the most popular theme park. However the best beaches there are at Volcano Bay and Disney World. Bot very expensive to visit. Orlando has some professional sports teams but, can you name them?
Downtown Orlando is nice but the skyline is limited because the Orlando Executive Airport keeps the height of the buildings from being as impressive as they could be. Orlando International Airport is awesome. However, in summation if Orlando was not the theme park capital of the world with Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and the other amusement parks and family friendly attractions who would visit it?
Come and explore Tampa Bay. The warm weather is inviting year round and the public transportation downtown is very good. Ybor City, the Hillsborough River and Tampa Riverwalk are perfect for those cool evening strolls. Who needs Sea World when you have a vibrant city like Tampa FL and Tampa's gulf coast beaches?
