Yes Tampa is a fun Town that will not disappoint. There are a wide variety of things to both see and do in Tampa Florida. Arts, festivals, nightlife museums, professional sports and outdoor adventures are all within the city. You can even take a cruise ship or ride on the Bay Rocket, I haven't even gotten started.
The fun starts as your travel here ends. The Tampa airport is awesome. I have travelled all over the world for business and I can definitely say two thumbs up for the main airport in Tampa Bay. Not to mention it's proximity to both the beaches, major highways and even downtown Tampa Florida. Well done Tampa !
To the west about 15-20 minutes and you are in Clearwater Florida and finally Clearwater Beach. Some people will prefer St Petersburg Florida or St Pete Beach (Pinellas County FL) which are to the south of Clearwater Beach. from the airport St Pete Beach will be at least a 30 minute drive and the route is slightly different. For general advice, Clearwater Beach has a better party scene while St Pete Beach is more casual.
First the elephant in the room which is Walt Disney World and Universal Studios. Expect a 2 hour drive from the airport or an hour and half from downtown Tampa. The traffic is slightly worse as you approach Orlando and Disney. You should really just pass on them. Tampa Bay has theme parks like Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, Adventure Island and Zoo Tampa. While not as large they are all great places to visit and most are pleasantly surprised.
Tamp Bay is the most awesome city in all of Florida. We have the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tampa Bay Lightening, Tampa Bay Rays and the Tampa Bay Rowdies (soccer since 1975). Most are familiar with Joe Robbie Stadium but maybe not the Amalie Center which is right downtown Tampa. I just scratched the surface for local sports teams.
The Riverwalk in the downtown area is much more than just our version of a boardwalk. It is a great way to walk from place to place if you choose to not take the streetcar, electric scooter or bike. The Streetcar runs from Ybor City to the east all of the way to the west side of downtown.
Along or near the Riverwalk you will see the Hillsborough River, Florida Aquarium, Curtis Hixon Park, Tampa Museum of Modern Art, Tampa Museum of Photographic Are and the Glazer Children's Museum. These alone will draw visitors to the city but yet there is way more. If you will allow yourself, you will see that Tampa is a fun town.
