You can walk on the Courtney Campbell Trail which runs along the side of the Courtney Campbell Causeway for 9.9 miles. There is is separate walking path to keep pedestrians out of harms way and this is the only walkway extending over Tampa Bay since Gandy Bridge's Friendship trail closed in 2008.
For 9.9 miles beginning east of Davis Beach and stretching westward just past Courtney Campbell Beach is a beautiful walking path where leased dogs and bicycles are allowed. This is the finest scenic trail in all of Tampa Bay and the only one over Old Tampa Bay as well.
There are places nearby for free parking. However, since I visit in off peak hours because of the heat I just park at Ben T Davis Beach and use the paid parking. If you want to be a purest and walk the whole trail continues to the east side of this beach but, it is already going to be very long.
At Ben Davis Beach there are nice restrooms and restaurants to return to later. The trail continues westward for around 9 miles and along the way you will see a few portable toilets. I think the tail could make some adjustments. Markers could be placed into the trail to relay your position to authorities if you need assistance and a few water fountains with shade would also be better.
Overall the spectacular views of upper Tampa Bay and the amazing boat ramp make for a great walk. Hillsborough County has few beaches and trails that will compare to what you see here. Cypress Park is a decent alternative but the trail here is simply unmatched in all of Tampa Bay.
