No you cannot fish off of the Courtney Campbell Causeway or the Courtney Campbell Trail where it passes over water at the main expanse. It is clearly posted by the Florida Department of Transportation that there is no fishing allowed from the bridge.
You will see people fishing under the bridge and near it on most days. The water here has a visibility of about 25-30 feet and if you look down from the trail you will be able to see fish bursting through the surface and bait fish swimming around as well. Speckled Trout, Mangrove Snapper, red fish, hard fighting Jack Crevalle and Snook can be caught without a boat.
Sheepshead fishing is what I have seen many angles doing. The rocky shores hold a lot of bait fish and when the tide is passing through some hungry trout are usually nearby as well. This scenic causeway holds a lo of Tampa Bay's wildlife.
Everyone loves fried fish or blackened red fish but there is a reason it is called fishing and not catching. What you will see most of is junk fish and the plentiful fiddler crab or the occasional blue crabs. To enjoy the best inshore fishing Hillsborough County has a fantastic boat ramp on the north side of the Courtney Campbell Causeway. Then you can catch that beautiful fish you have been dreaming of.
