Tampa is better than Orlando, all things considered. Orlando is a great place and yes some will prefer it. But when you consider all that each area has to offer, and the frequency that you will take advantage of those things, Tampa Bay is the clear winner.
Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World are all great destinations. But do you really want to visit them that often? They have gotten crazy expensive and one more thing. You can visit them in Tampa fairly easily because it's only 2 hours away. Problem solved, now what does Orlando have that is better than Tampa Bay? Not a darn thing.
Adventure Island, Busch Gardens and Zoo Tampa are all you really need when it comes to amusement parks and Orlando Vs Tampa Bay. Once you visit them you will see what I mean. When you consider how often you visit parks like these they are a small part of the overall battle between the cities.
True the Orlando Magic do still exist. What else? One and done. Tampa Bay has far more fans of professional sport teams because we have more teams. The Tampa Bay Bucs, Tampa Lightning, The Tampa Rays and far better sports areas. I think out teams and fans speak for themselves.
Orlando wins possibly in public transportation and overall flight destinations from Orlando International Airport. Tampa Airport is still my favorite to fly out of but because of the best theme parks being in Orlando and the fact it is more inland it has more connecting flights destination wise. Without the parks Orlando's economy does what?
We have an ocean breeze, in fact it is just a short drive to the best beaches in Florida. Our them park is Clearwater Beach and the Gulf Coast Beaches surrounding it. Our thriving job market is based on far more than an amusement park or two and once you visit Florida's Gulf Coast Beaches you will never want to go to another one.
Our Weather is better than Orlando weather. Clearwater Beach holds the record for consecutive days of sunshine. The Tampa area is more prone (supposedly) to hurricane season affecting us but we haven't had a direct hit in a hundred years. Tampa is better than Orlando.
