Anytime between the middle of August through the middle of October would be the month with the most hurricanes in Tampa Florida. The actual Atlantic hurricane season/ official hurricane season runs from June 1st through November 30th.
All Southeastern United States need to be on guard during hurricane season and monitoring everything that the National Hurricane Center announces. It seems that there is always at least one tropical storm on it's way during the Atlantic Hurricane Season here in Southwest Florida. People underestimate how active the gulf coast is although hurricane Ian and Idalia just reminded us. Thankfully Tampa Bay has not suffered a direct hit in almost 100 years.
During the threat from Idalia a 4 foot storm surge was expected over Bayshore Boulevard. Even though the storm surge never fully materialized water did actually cover part of the Boulevard. If the hit would have been direct thousands of homes would have been effected. Downtown Tampa FL is approximately 20 feet above sea level. Hurricane Ian flooded many a home as well.
Just a few days a year with tropical storm forced wins. In other words wind in excess of 35 mph. Thankfully most likely if you live here you will never really need to evacuate. However, if a major hurricane is a threat and the National Hurricane Center or local weather channel so advises, evacuate early because hotels up north will be very hard to get and evacuation centers are not what they are cracked up to be.
