Tampa is the nicest city in Florida to live in. By Tampa I do mean anywhere in the Tampa Bay area. That means most of Hillsborough County Florida from Plant City westward all of the way to the Gulf Coast. I will be covering some other great options you may not have heard about.
The best cities offer things their residents want. A good education system, a vibrant downtown area with that big city feel but yet semi affordable housing and family friendly. Not only does Tampa offer that big city life but it also has major sports teams, theme parks and the west coast of Florida for those who want that laid back beach lifestyle. If you are looking to live in Florida, I bet I can find a home you will love in Tampa Bay.
Options to the south include Cape Coral and nearby Fort Myers. The Sarasota population and the Cape Coral population have been through a tough time in the last couple of years because of storms. Still those are amazing southwest Florida areas.
Young adults will possibly prefer outdoor activities to that small town feel. Although the cost of living is a high cost compared to many locations Miami Dade County is one of the best places to live for young adults that are party centric.
A more affordable place that still has the water sports and warm weather are north of Miami Dade County. South Florida has a lot of beach towns along the Atlantic Ocean between Cocoa Beach and Miami. Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach and Boca Raton are some of the more well known. You can find sandy beaches there but still the cost of living is prohibitive and traffic is atrocious.
Not only is the downtown Orlando area awesome but the theme parks like Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and Seaworld Orlando just scratch the surface of what there is to do in Orlando. This big city is modern, 1 hour from Daytona Beach, Cocoa Beach, the Kennedy Space Center and much more. Central Florida is a great place to live. It has a great natural history, the median home price is affordable and like the rest of Florida, no state income taxes.
Saint Augustine and Jacksonville Florida would not really be a great option for living in the sunshine state. Although Johns River flows all of the way to the Orlando area I have never liked Jacksonville. To much traffic and no personality.
Westward to the Gainesville population and Tallahassee which is the state capital. Florida State University is located in the capital and the Gators rule Gainesville. Of those two, Gainesville is my preference as the state capital is just to much like Alabama.
The Best Cities in North Florida include Pensacola, Destin and Panama City Beach. Would I live there? Probably not. However the beaches are incredible, but once again it's to much like Alabama.
