Clearwater Beach is the nicest beach in Florida. Nowhere on earth has better white sand beaches than you will find on a gulf coast beach. These beaches extend from Gulf Islands National Seashore in the panhandle of Florida to Marco Island on the southwest portion of South Florida.
Clearwater Beach is the chief among Florida beaches. This is a bold statement but when you ground the 189 beaches which Florida has together and look at their pro's and cons many of them fall off the list for a large part of the year. Several of the most famous are living on a dream more than a reality compared to their competition.
The best Florida beaches need to have sugar white sand, be usable all year round and have local attractions. It does not hurt to have hotels, restaurants and bars beachside just a short walk away. Clearwater Beach has all of these things including a fishing pier, deep sea fishing, Clearwater Marine Aquarium and several smaller beautiful beaches with white sands within just a few miles. The Tampa International Airport is 20 minutes away from this barrier island located on Florida's west coast.
Honeymoon Island State Park is to the north and also a narrow barrier island paradise. Beach access is over the Dunedin Causeway and there are plenty of nature trails to go along with that soft sand and sunshine you are craving. Other semi-secluded beaches Sand key Beach, Caladesi Island State Park, Bellaire Beach, Treasure Island Beach, Sunset beach and St Pete Beach all within Tampa Bay Florida.
Are the best beaches in Florida on the Emerald Coast aka the Panhandle of Florida? Some would say so although not myself and yes I have lived here as well. Panama City Beach is very nice but more of a Spring Break type of beach. To the west you will come across Grayton Beach State Park. Definitely is you like pristine beaches and sand dunes Grayton Beach State Park is the place to be. This is my favorite part of South Walton but heads up, Grayton Beach is on the west side of the park.
Henderson Beach State Park and Miramar Beach are more in the area of Destin Florida. If you have heard of Destin you will know it is also famous for offshore fishing. The nicest fishing pier in the area is Okaloosa Island Pier and then you would have the Pier in Navarre Beach which is one of the best kept secrets in South Walton. Pensacola Beach is only popular because of Pensacola and Gulf Islands National Seashore is too. For most it is Destin or Panama City Beach.
You can still find a relatively undeveloped beach in this area. That is if you are comparing it to the more famous locations within the Sunshine State. Siesta Key Beach and Siesta Beach are the first major beaches and the white sand only gets whiter as you head south toward the Florida Keys. Sea turtles, Sand Dollars and sea shells are much more prevalent from Siesta Key south. Sanibel Island by Cape Coral is another Florida beach with amazing white sands. Fort Myers as a whole is very nice.
Long Key State Park and Bahia Honda State Park are going to be two areas with beaches. There are plenty of areas you can call beaches and plenty of resorts as well. There is a reason why you do not see the Florida Keys or Key West marketed as a beach area. Scuba diving in Key West, deep sea fishing sure but not really a beach area.
I hate South Beach. South Beach is crowded and full of rude people with insufficient parking. Among the beaches in Florida this one is the most disappointing once you get past the hype and saying you have been there. Maybe the most famous beach in Florida but definitely not among the best beaches in Florida nor family friendly.
Fort Lauderdale Beach is slightly better and still has white sand. North you will come across and endless supply of Atlantic Ocean beaches like Hollywood Beach and Delray Beach. Florida's East Coast has nearly 350 miles of beaches. Jupiter Island, Palm Beach ( Palm Beach County), Cocoa Beach, Daytona Beach to Amelia Island. You will find no shortage of sandy shores and nature trails along the Atlantic Coast and A1A.
