I am 60 years old and as a general rule I would say yes, if you can afford it. However, the average retiree in Florida makes under $50,000 per year and obviously they choose other destinations. The Villages FL, Solivita FL and one of the Del Webb communities are most people's preferences.
There are several reasons to choose Tampa Bay. There are quite a few 55 plus communities here as well. There are waterfront mobile home communities for retirees, communities in north Tampa and even high rise condos for retirees aka 55 plus.
Lakeland FL and Winter Haven FL both have a fairly decent sized retirement population. Both have a lot of beautiful lakes and great medical care as well. You will find them much closer to Disney, Legoland and Peppa Pig for when those grandchildren visit. They are just 30 minutes to an hour west of Tampa. You will get much more for your money, the areas are less expensive and so will be your homeowner's insurance.
