Yes Tampa Florida is a good place to retire. Retirement can be expensive and it depends on where you want to spend your money, and how much money you wish to spend on housing. The Tampa Bay area can be expensive depending on the location in it that you choose.
Tampa Bay consists of most of Hillsborough County and the best parts of Pinellas County. There are actually many smaller cities within Tampa Bay other than Tampa FL. To live in South Tampa, downtown Tampa and basically any part of Tampa south of Interstate Four is more expensive than north of it.
there are a few 55 plus communities in South Tampa. One overlooking Tampa Bay and one overlooking Hillsborough Bay. If a 55 plus community is of interest they can be found here. There are also some 55 plus communities in north Tampa which are good options. In fact one in the northeast part of the city near Wesley Chapel is a great choice and very nice.
This is the third largest city in Florida and thankfully the Tampa International Airport is actually amazing. What many overlook is just to the south of it in the Westshore District there are many of the best Tampa neighborhoods overlooking Old Tampa Bay and near the big city amenities this part of the sunshine state offers.
Walt Disney World is within 2 hours, Busch Gardens and the area's sports teams are even closer. If single family homes are not what you are looking for then there are plenty of condos and townhomes. All just about 30 minutes from the gulf coast beaches and even closer to ones here in the city of Tampa. Clearwater Beach is a great place to hang out, fish on the pier or spend the evening with a friend or lover.
Since we have no state income tax you will be glad to hear your property taxes actually go toward things that benefit you. Tampa neighborhoods usually are close to great parks and the Tampa Riverwalk is a prime example. It is also lined with smaller parks and some fine indoor-outdoor restaurants.
The hospitals in Tampa are great. The main hospital is on the northern end of Davis Islands just south of Downtown Tampa. It is also very easy to drive to and find. Not all of us will end up in assisted living facilities and making great choices like Tampa (if you can afford it) will place you next to great hospitals which may be of great benefit sooner or later. All things considered, Tampa Florida is a good place to retire.
