Tampa is a good city to retire if you choose the best neighborhoods to retire in. The healthcare facilities are of course modern and Hillsborough County in general is good for retirement. The crime index is higher in some parts of town but most of the retirement or 55 Plus communities in near the best Tampa neighborhoods.
There are several 55 plus to choose from. One is a high rise condo and another has mobile homes and sets on Tampa Bay. It is surprisingly nice and a great way to live on or near the bay. Yes, both are secure and the mobile home community is actually gated. Tampa Bay has many 55 plus communities and Tampa Bay has many residents over 55.
Some of the 55 plus housing options are to the north and east of downtown Tampa. Although a little rural they are only about 20-30 minutes from the city of Tampa as in downtown. I would avoid immediately north of I-4 because of the crime rate there. There are many online resources that will back that up. South Tampa is somewhat safer and South Tampa is much nicer.
Take a cruise out of Tampa or go to St Pete beach or Clearwater and take a cruise on a smaller vessel. Maybe on a pirate ship, maybe on a ship which looks like a shark !
