Retirement in Tampa Florida is a great option, if you can afford it. My dad once asked me is Tampa a good place to retire and I even told him yes. There are many great things to do here and the quality of life can be exceptionable. We like it because there is so much to take our grandchildren to.
That is where we like to pick up our visitors, and return them to. Actually we want visitors to come as often as they wish. There are many big city amenities here and, there are fantastic medical services. As for health care one of the largest and best VA hospitals is Florida is in northern Tampa and there are many other fine hospitals like Tampa General Hospital.
I absolutely love downtown Tampa. I love to get outside and I love to eat. Downtown Tamp and the Tampa Riverwalk are great places to do both and parking is relatively easy and safe. I have yet to have any issues and go there very often. For those who do not know you can even catch a cruise right out of Tampa. Tampa offers residents all types of perks and is the third largest city in FL.
By far the best Tampa neighborhood is South Tampa as a whole. Along the western coast of it is the best of both worlds. Gorgeous coastal homes and wonderful parks are on the western coast of South Tampa. Close to the beach and amazing sunsets over Tampa Bay. Not to mention being about 30 minutes away from that laid back beach lifestyle over in St Petersburg.
I will be going against the grain here. I am a hard core believer in the Tampa Bay area being good for seniors. However, as for Assisted Living Facilities my vote is going to be Orlando. My wife was the director of Senior Living Facilities for over 15 years. Orlando is probably a better selection if you can afford it. Closer to us is Lakeland and Winter Haven which are more affordable but, you get what you pay for.
