Yes, Tampa is a healthy city and most of it scores a 50 on the Walk Score. Granted there are many definitions of healthy but everything you need here is available. I doubt anyone here ever gets depressed because of cloudy days because in Tampa Bay as they are very rare.
Bayshore Boulevard has been with us for a very long time. This continuous sidewalk stands as a testament to the resources available in Tampa Bay for those who wish to be active. It is shown in the photo at the top of this page. South Tampa and even Hyde Park pedestrians have very easy access to this 4 mile long sidewalk. It is 10 feet wide to accommodate biking, jogging and walking. Trust me, it is well used by locals and very walkable. There are even workout stations along it.

The downtown area is also designed to encourage both young and old alike to get outside. There are quite a few playgrounds, some even with fountains for the young and young at heart to enjoy. The Tampa Riverwalk is one of the best river walks in the whole country. Not to mention at night it is the most beautiful as you can see above.
Residents of Florida are typically more active due to the climate we have here. The fact that there is no state income tax certainly affords them a little more pocket money to spend than San Francisco California or Chicago residents in the same income brackets.
