St Pete is better if you like beaches Tampa is better is you like a more sophisticated uptown lifestyle. Downtown Tampa is amazing and basically the capitol of the Tampa Bay Area. Clearwater Beach is for the young at heart, St Pete Beach is more the more mature and nuanced beach lover.
The Tampa airport is where most fly into when they come to the Tampa Bay area. It is about 20 minutes to Clearwater Beach FL and about 30 minutes to St Pete beach and ditto for St Petersburg. One fun fact is while the Tampa airport and most of the Tampa Bay area are in Hillsborough County, St Pete is actually in Pinellas County.
St Petersburg is a very nice town with some surprising attractions. Although the main draw is the beach all of the beach goers have created an income stream and tax revenue which over time has greatly benefitted the area. One can not only live well is St Petersburg but a tourist can also find much to do there. 2 more fun facts, the St Pete Pier overlooks Tampa Bay and not the gulf. Although many will spell the city Saint Petersburg it is indeed St Petersburg. And call it the gulf, not the Atlantic Ocean.
St Pete is referred to as The City of The Arts. Namely the James Museum, Dali Museum and the art festivals have been responsible for this name. Downtown Tampa is also well known for the arts with a surprising art and culture scene. The Tampa Riverwalk will take you by several museums filled with different types of art to admire and the Florida Aquarium. Get out and enjoy the sunshine city and the downtown area at both St Pete and Tampa FL. Not only will you find beautiful beaches here but a very walkable downtown.
