No, Miami is not hotter than Tampa. Are you surprised? Actually the average summer temperature based on June, July and August in Miami Florida is just 87 degrees for a high and 78 degrees for a low. In Tampa the average high temperatures for that same timeframe is 91 degrees for a high and 77 degrees for a low. Where Miami excels is with it's higher humidity levels.
As most of us know Tampa Florida is within the Tampa Bay area which is most of Hillsborough County. Included in the area is a lot of water. You would think that the gulf breezes and the water would cool the area off more but actually the land mass to the east has slightly more impact. The flow of most weather is east to west so most breezes that affect the area are from the east where it is hotter over land. Hence, Tampa hotter and so are Tampa residents.
In Miami you will soon notice several things about the Miami climate. The overwhelming humidity and the sea breeze if you are within 3-5 miles of the Atlantic Ocean and those pristine beaches. The same holds true all of the way north to Palm Beach in my opinion.
At this point Miami Beach may sound better. However, it is much worse during the extreme weather season when you consider hurricanes and the two cities history. Both Tampa and Miami have experienced them but Miami is far more exposed. I will take Tampa and the warm high temperatures over the other weather differences during hurricane season every time.
