Yes dolphins swim in Tampa Bay Florida. In fact there are around 150 dolphins that use Tampa Bay regularly. Some dolphins stay in one area while other dolphins choose to migrate. Tampa Bay is huge and filled with food for dolphins in Tampa Bay.
Bottlenose dolphins are present with their calves in spring and summer when the bay is warmer. You can see dolphins in Tampa Bay year round and along the west coast beaches as well. Dolphins have a fairly wide tolerance for water temperature. They can actually stand water from 50 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit so as long as food is present, usually so are they.
Keep in mind there is a big difference between a wild dolphin and a dolphin used to swimming or being in the water with humans. The sunshine state has no shortage of places you can swim with dolphins but Tampa Bay may not be the best place.
Dolphins have a protective and mischievous side that you would rather not be exposed to. We suggest enjoying them from a boat or safe distance and do not disturb them in their natural environment. Even when you swim with dolphins in a safe place they can accidently injure any outdoor enthusiasts.
In order to have the amazing encounter or great experience visitors and their children are looking for you may want to visit the Florida Aquarium or something similar. Possibly an airboat ride or one of the many dolphin cruise tours available. Not only do these offer a more controlled safe environment but they virtually assure you of seeing one.
