Yes you can drink water from the sink in Tampa Florida. I drink tap water provided by the city of Tampa. However, I do filter mine through a fairly descent filter. I know many who are drinking water from the tap, or drinking tap water but through the filter in their refrigerator. Tampa Bay water is just fine for many.
Contaminants that make it through the initial water treatment processes are not the only ones. Water can pick up these contaminants on the way from the Tampa Water Department to your belly. That is why I want as purified water as possible. Along the way water can pick up natural occurring metal, potentially cancer causing contaminants in the piping from the meter to your home and many other contaminants. An additional water filter is a great idea and it does not have to be a reverse osmosis water filter to help assure you have good water quality.
Many of the chemicals that are technically safe to drink are placed in the water treatment processes to keep the water safe between the plant and your faucet. Not, necessarily for your health. Water can set in pipes for a prolonged period which promoted increased risk of algae growth etcetera. Test conducted in major cities have shown evidence of this time and time again. To get the purest water to you the city does the best it can. EPA enforcement of water safety is also a positive factor in you receiving safe drinking water.
Total chromium, total trihalomethanes, haloacetic acids, hexavalent chromium, EWG health guidelines and the Environmental Protection Agency guidelines for drinking water. Just because your water comes from a Floridan Aquifer doesn't mean it is perfect. Get a decent filter and at least you will know you tried and most likely have better water than most bottled water.
