Houses are cheaper in Orlando than in Tampa but not by much. The median price in Tampa has been $406,000 and the median price in Orlando has been $390,000 and the volume of sales was highest in Orlando.
Most Central Florida Cities will have home prices similar to the national average. This state is rather large and has many rural areas. However, Tampa and Orlando are different as their metropolitan areas are huge and both have very popular attractions. Namely the theme parks in Orlando, the Orlando weather and Tampa Bay has the Gulf of Mexico beaches and, well it's Tampa Bay. Being a coastal city certainly helps.
Downtown Tampa is probably the best downtown area south of Jacksonville. You can get around easily, it is filled with art and museums, Florida Aquarium and the riverwalk is amazing. You can not catch a cruise or water taxi in Orlando as it is an inland city.
Orlando's economy is largely driven by Walt Disney World. The Tampa area has Busch Gardens aka Busch Gardens Tampa Bay as some call it. We also have Zoo Tampa and many other attractions like the best sports teams when compared to Orlando. Orlando takes best theme parks but we can be there in a little over an hour.
Both Orlando and Tampa are actually major cities and both qualify for a great tourist destination. What makes Orlando popular is the lower cost of living, average rent or home prices and what makes the Tampa area popular is the lack of a state income tax, thriving job market and being the major city on the gulf coast.
